DIATOMIC (AX)

This is an example of a diatomic molecule. These molecules are linear in structure and are composed of two atoms. For example, many of the gases form diatomic molecules naturally, such as N2, O2, F2, etc. In the case of O2, it has 3 lone pairs around the adjacent atom, and one lone pair around the central atom, with a double bond between the atoms. Double bonds in any molecule type makes a shorter distance. The lone pairs are found in the s orbitals, and the bonds (shared electrons) are found in the p orbitals.

To zoom, hold "Shift", and hold the left mouse button moving it across the image. To rotate the molecule manually, hold the left mouse button and drag it across the picture.
