Rock stars, movie stars, tennis stars - Sweden has seen plenty of stars from Greta Garbo to Ace of Base. It is a country with a rich cultural history and an eye on the future. Its exports to the world include Ericsson's cellular phones, and your neighbor's Volvo or Saab.

You might have bought furniture from IKEA, and perhaps you read Pippi Longstocking as a child? The Swedes invented the dynamite, and who hasn't heard of, or tasted, delicious Swedish meatballs!

Many will tell you how warm it is outside by citing Anders Celcius, and we are called homo sapiens because of Carl Linné. Six Swedish authors have received the Nobel Prize in literature, and in the film industry, Ingmar Bergman is famous for his many masterpieces. For a country of only eight and a half million people, there is a lot to be proud of.

If you visit Sweden in the month of June, you might celebrate The Midsummer Eve with a dance around the Maypole, and whether you are vacationing or studying, the countryside with more than 10,000 lakes will invite you to share its beauty.
