HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

It’s the start of our 50th year as an organization.  There will of course be celebrations at the National Conference but we will also be celebrating as a region at the NBS Fall Workshop, September  18 & 19 at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities campus.  Thanks to Matt LeFebvre, who is ‘head host’ at UMTC.  There are full details elsewhere in this issue of the newsletter.

Once again there will be opportunity to share your work at the cover-the-walls exhibit.  Students who participate will have their $5 conference fee waived (though they will still need to pay the $5 student membership fee).  They will also be eligible to win one of three student registrations to the national conference. As part of the 50th birthday festivities the work of the winners will be included in a special exhibit at the national expo this spring.   Of course, as always, non-students are also encouraged to participate in the cover the walls even though they are not eligible to win.

I’m in need of a few good people: We’re 6 months out from our election of new officers so we need a dedicated team to serve on the nominations committee.  Taking the time to find the people who are well suited and willing to serve on the board has a long lasting impact on the organization as a whole. This is a great opportunity for people who want to make a contribution to NBS but are not able to make the three year commitment to being an officer.  If you are willing to serve in this VERY IMPORTANT capacity please contact me before the fall workshop.    As always, representation from the professional sector would be welcomed on this committee.

Of course we also need several members-at-large to read scholarship applications this fall.  This is another short-but-intense opportunity to serve and right before the holidays hit.  Contact me if you can support this worthwhile project with a few hours of reading.

Enjoy the rest of your summer!

See you in the Twin Cities,
Rooth
