Late Night Musings

Has this summer provided you with any new perspectives as you head back into the 2013-14 season? Perhaps it was through meeting new people or visiting new places. Maybe it was just from taking a little
break. And for some of us the pedal has been to the metal for too long and a step back would be nice. I’m hopeful that for everyone reading this newsletter, the 2013 NBS Fall Conference, 2014 Annual Conference, and other gatherings will be perfect opportunities to gain some new perspectives on how we work, how we play, and how we can keep doing what we enjoy.
2013 Summer Board meeting
For this summer’s NBS Board Meeting we got together on a Monday late-afternoon in mid-June. Last year’s use of modern technology worked so well that once again we had several of board members from afar join us via webinar. Gino continues to run a tight ship and our finances are solid. We had a very good discussion about the success of our relationships with other organizations in our territory and USITT-NBS will continue membership with the Minnesota Theater Alliance (http://minnesotatheateralliance.org/) and the Minnesota Association of Community Theatres (http://mact.net) to share our resources and training opportunities. We will also continue to look for other partners for mutual benefit. And, as one would expect, much of the rest of the meeting was about the upcoming 2013 Fall Conference.
2013 USITT NBS Fall Conference
The 2013 Northern Boundary Section Fall Conference will be taking place this year at Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minnesota on Friday, September 13th & Saturday, September 14th. We will hold our membership meeting on Friday night. Please come with ideas that will help keep USITT-NBS fun and make it a relevant and productive part of all of our lives. Please make sure that you look through the details on the 2013 Fall Conference in this Newsletter and share this information with others that may not currently be NBS members.
2013-14
If you have events happening during the year at your institution that would be a benefit to the NBS membership, please share that information through the NBS Newsletter or by e-mail to the section. We will share our events with our neighboring sections in the Midwest and Heart of America and expect that we will see some opportunities to participate in their events as well. And this year the National 2014 USITT Annual Conference and Expo will be in Fort Worth, Texas in March, 2014.
I hope that I will see most of you next month at the Fall Conference. Have a great start to the 2013-14 year!
