Late Night Musings

by Todd Reemtsma, NBS Section Chairperson

I wish that I had some way of instantly capturing the first thought that crossed your mind as you read that phrase.  It would be a very interesting snapshot in time to see what is on your mind these days.  It seems that at any given moment on any given day we all have difficult Todddecisions to make, whether they are large or small.  But rather than explain the meaning of my intro so soon, I encourage you to read on.

2014 USITT NBS Summer Board meeting
The gathering of the NBS Board – in person and virtually – occurred on Monday, July 21st, 2014.  The key topics covered at this summer’s board meeting were preparation for the 2014 NBS Fall Conference, discussion of items to be covered at the USITT Sections Meeting in Nashville on August 14th & 15th, and the addition of an Emerging Professional Grant to our fall scholarships.  We continue to have good success in our relationships with other organizations in our territory and USITT-NBS will continue membership with the Minnesota Theater Alliance (  and  the Minnesota Association of Community Theatres ( to share our resources and training opportunities.  We will also look to strengthen our relationship with Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival (KCACTF) Region V (

2014 USITT NBS Fall Conference
The 2014 Northern Boundary Section Fall Conference will be taking place this year at Anoka Ramsey Community College in Anoka, Minnesota on Friday, September 5th & Saturday, September 6th.  We will hold our membership meeting on Friday night and this year will have a guest speaker/presenter.  In regards to the “Difficult Decisions Ahead”, the slate of programs is full of incredible topics and presenters and I wish there was a way to attend each and every session.  Please make sure that you look through the details on the 2014 Fall Conference in this Newsletter and share this information with others that may not currently be NBS members.

If you have events happening during the year at your institution that would be a benefit to the NBS membership, please share that information through the NBS Newsletter or by e-mail to the section (send items for distribution to Brian Bjorklund-  We will share our events with our neighboring sections in the Midwest and Heart of America and expect that we will see some opportunities to participate in their events as well.  And this year the 2015 USITT Annual Conference and Expo will be in Cincinnati, Ohio in March, 2015.
I hope that I will see most of you next month at the Fall Conference.  Have a great start to the 2014-15 year!
