Production Stage Manager

(non-equity)

Commonweal Theatre Company, a professional theatre entering our 25th season, is accepting resumes for the position of a non-Equity Production Stage Manager. The theatre, new in 2007, is an intimate 200 seat, three-quarter round thrust stage. Located in historic Lanesboro in the heart of the Southeastern Minnesota bluff country (approx. two hours south of Mpls/St. Paul), the Commonweal boasts a rare organizational model of artist/administrator, where artists fulfill the day-to-day artistic and operational needs of the company.

Season runs from March through December. Shows include “Miss Julie”, “Doll’s House”, “Blithe Spirit”, “Sherlock Holmes; the Final Adventure”, “The Memory of Water”, and “The Last Night at Ballyhoo.” The majority of the season runs in a rotating repertory schedule.

Housing is provided in our artist’s residence located two blocks from the theatre.

Responsibilities:
• Scheduling of production meetings in coordination with Production Manager
• Run all rehearsals of assigned shows and produce daily rehearsal/performance reports for design team
• Call and run performances of assigned shows which includes operating computerized sound and lighting systems
* Supervise Production Assistant
• Maintain a safe, smooth running environment
• Ability to take charge and keep everyone on task during the rehearsal and performance process
• In charge of certain changeovers during shows in repertory
• Stage Managers also work as part of the production team under the supervision of the Production Manager and Executive Director
• Mentoring of stage management apprentices

Requirements:
• Non-union only
• Prefer 1-2 years of Stage Management/Company Management experience (professional, graduate or advanced undergraduate)
• Excellent organizational and communication skills
• The ability to work efficiently and gracefully under pressure
• Ability to work as part of a team (with a sense of humor and generosity of spirit)
• Driver’s License with excellent driving record
• Able to lift 50 pounds
• Basic knowledge of sound and lighting systems
• Computer savvy -- please include list of programs with which you are proficient
• CPR or other emergency medical training preferred but not necessary
