Northern Boundary Section Elections

Its election time! The Northern Boundary Section nominating committee has prepared a slate of candidates for our leadership positions and they are listed below. A ballot including these nominees as well as space for write-in candidates will be handed out at our annual meeting in Kansas City at the USITT National Conference. That meeting is scheduled for 8am on Thursday, April 1. If you will will not be attending that meeting, click here for an absentee ballot.

Following the sample ballot below are bios for the candidates.


MEET THE CANDIDATES

Chair:             
Todd Reemtsma
Todd has been working at JTH Lighting Alliance in Lighting Control Sales since August 2007.  Before relocating to Minnesota he worked for Electronic Theater Controls in NYC for 11 years.  He holds an MFA in Lighting Design from University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a BA in Theatre from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire.  Todd has been on the NBS board as the Member-at-Large for the Metro area since the fall of 2008. He is also an Ironman finisher!

Senior Vice-chair for Programming:

Mary Beth Gagner
Mary Beth is the Costume Supervisor at Hamline University.  She holds a MFA from the University of Washington and a BA from Gustavus Adolphus College.  She is a Co-founder of the Costume Guild of Minnesota and former chair of NBS.

Peter Lerohl
Peter is the Designer/Technical Director for Anoka-Ramsey Community College.  He is also a Rigger/Installer for 20/20 Theatrical.  He holds a BA in Theatre Art, Speech Communication, Secondary Education, and English Literature from Concordia College, Moorhead MN.  Peter has served as Secretary for NBS since 2007. 

Junior Vice –chair for Publications: 
Brian Bjorklund (Incumbent)
Brian has taught design at St. Olaf College since 1981. He holds an MFA in Design and Technical Theatre and a BFA in Theatre Arts from the University of Minnesota -Twin Cities.  He has served as the Vice-chair for publications since 1987.

Treasurer: 
Jean Montgomery (Incumbent)
Jean is a Lighting Designer and Professor Emeritus from the University of Minnesota -Twin Cities.  She has served as the Treasurer and/or Secretary of NBS since it was founded. 

Secretary: 
Michael Messer
Michael has been Theatre Technical Director at Hill-Murray School since 1994.  He holds a BA in Theatre and Speech Communications from the University of Minnesota -Twin Cities.

Ricky Greenwell
Ricky is the costume Designer for Minnesota State University - Moorhead.  He holds an MFA from Wayne State University in Costume Design and Technology and a BS from Eastern Michigan University in Communication & Theatre Arts and English with a Secondary Education Teaching Certification.  Ricky has served on the NBS board as the Member-at-Large Northwest since 2007.

 

Member-at-large Metro: 
Brent “Mickey” Henry
Mickey is employed by, Norcostco, in Project Sales since August 2009.  Previously he was the Technical Director at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities for 8 years.  He holds an MFA in Technical Direction from the University of Arizona and a BFA in Scenic Arts and Crafts from North Carolina School of the Arts.

 

Member at Large Northwest: 
Rooth Varland
Rooth has been the Costume Designer at North Dakota State University since 2002
She holds a MFA in Theatre Design from Northwestern University and a BA in Art from Concordia College .  She has been Chair of NBS since 2002

Member at Large Northeast: 
Mark Harvey (Incumbent) 
Mark has been the Lighting Designer at the University of Minnesota - Duluth since 1985.  He holds a MFA in Lighting Design from Indiana University and a BA in Speech and Drama from Anderson College.  He has served on the NBS board since 2007.

Member at Large Southwest:
Corey Shelsta (Incumbent)
Corey has been the Designer, Technical Director, and Production Manager at South Dakota State University and the Prairie Repertory Company since 2000. He holds a BS in Communication Studies and Theatre from South Dakota State University and an MFA in Lighing Design from Wayne State University in Detroit.   Corey has served on the NBS board since 2007.  He is also the webmaster for the NBS webpage.

Member at Large Southeast:
Christopher “Kit” Mayer
Kit has been the Designer/Technical Director for the Performance Center and Theatre Department at St. Mary’s University in Winnona since 1998.  He holds a BA from the University of Wisconsin - LaCrosse. Kit has been the resident designer for the Fairbanks Shakespeare Theatre in Alaska since 1994.

Sheila Tabaka (Incumbent)
Sheila has been the Costume Designer at Southwest Minnesota State University Costume Designer since 1998.  She holds a MFA in Costume Design from Minnesota State University - Mankato and a BA in Theatre Arts from the University of Wisconsin, Stevens Point.  She has served on the NBS board since 2003.   Sheila is the currently the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival: Vice Chair of Design and Technology for Region V.
