Membership Meeting, September 13, 2013

NBS Fall Workshop At Southwest State University Marshall, MN 9/13/13

Friday Evening Membership Meeting
• Call to order Todd 7:59pm
Thanks to our host Southwest Minnesota State University.
• Following the NBS tradition we started out meeting with introductions.
There were 59 people in attendance.
• Todd called for the approval of the meeting minutes for the spring 2013 meeting.
Seconded and approved.
• Gino gave a treasures report.  We have $4852.21 in the bank.
• Gino asked that we address the policy regarding the break up of individual members that $5 of their $15 was designated to go to a CD account for scholarships but proves to be not profitable.   Motion was made and seconded to discontinue separating out the 5$ form the individual membership into a separated account to accrue interest.   Motion to talk jean in the morning. Eliminate the split.   Motion to floor.  Motion approved.

• Reminder to student that scholarship money is available for the nation conference.

• Todd introduced Peter Lerohl and Sheila Tabaka talk about the Fall workshop. Thanks to Nadine Schmidt for the food.  Thanks to JD  Sargent for all the technical set up for the event.  This is a smoke free campus so please do not smoke on campus.
Peter gave a big thank you to the student of SMSU for all their work on the event. The pink sheet is a schedule for events and workshops.
There are only three rooms that workshop will take place in-  gave locations.  Bowling at the bowling alley and a social dance in the black box for students.  Thanks for coming!
• Todd introduced Corey who handed out info regarding Peer Reviews.
Establish a database.
• Todd talked about scholarships and suggested students apply.  The deadline is Oct. 15.  Committee to read scholarships will be Corey Shelsta, Kit Mayer, Kathy , Todd  Edwards, Ricky Greenwell.
• National Conference info:
Fort Worth Convention Center.  Conference: March 26-29, 2014.  Stage Expo: March 27-29, 2014.  Group travel? Duluth is interested in doing that. And they are willing to Organize it.  Please contact the Duluth Student chapter.  Brian said we can create a bus interest list.
• It is a year away!  Who among us would be interested in hosting the fall conference.  According to tradition this would be a metro year. But we have not seen Iowa in a while as well.  For any school interested contact Peter Lerohl peter.lerohl@anokaramsey.edu.
• Follow up from Milwaukee and summer meeting. There was discussion for student involvement in board activity. Having potential student board members. Opening the floor for discussion. We discussed having a Student one year term.  Do we look at a student-at-large in each of the corresponding areas of the region?  Discussion was had about having just a student liaison to each fall conference event and possibly have one form the school and also one from one of the student chapters.
Schools who are willing to host this should think about having a student involved.
Mentoring program- look at the national model.
• Open topics:  Cover the walls adjudication:  Brian gave explanation as to how voting would happen.
• Jerry talked about national speakers. Proposed to put together a committee for a notional speaker.  Professional. USITT presence at the national level.

Fall Conference Closing Meeting Notes
Saturday, 9/14/13
• Call to order 4:05
• Peter thanks presenters for the great weekend and all they shared.  Southwest theatre club Thank yous:  Nadine Schmidt,   Sheila Tabaka,   JD  Sargent.
• Reminder: Students can apply for scholarships to the National Conference. Oct. 15 deadline for the applications.
• Cover the wall Winners are:  Jake Roberts,  Katie Guzzi,  Kathleen Martin.
• Brian- Reminder that the news letter dates are the 15th of December, March, May and August.  Students-  you are encouraged to share with the newsletter.
• Vendors have requested access to our membership contact information. Up until now we have never given that information out. Discussion was held- Think about permission check box at annual member renewal. We would want to have a one time use policy for each vendor request. No decision.
• Peter-  Think about workshop topics for fall. There will be a survey for workshops and future programing. Peter’s contact info is in the newsletter and at the web site.
• Looking for a host school for next years fall conference- Sept. 2014. Who among us would be interested in hosting the fall conference? According to tradition this would be a metro year.
