Stage Management- Resources for the Next Step...
by Leah Vogel NDSU Little Country Theatre, recipient of the NBS Doughnut Scholarship
As a graduating senior of North Dakota State University I was very grateful for the opportunity to attend this year’s National USITT Conference in Kansas City, MO. The experience was invaluable, as this conference always is.
As a stage manager it is important to meet and network with other managers. The conference is a wonderful place for gathering and learning new and different ideas. This year was no different. The management seminars covered a variety of topics that I was eager to learn more about. One that was especially helpful was titled “What Not to Wear” and covered such things as ways to create an ensemble on a budget, how to best present yourself on a resume, and how to come into an interview. It was useful to hear from people in the field who had lived through experiences such as they were describing. Other workshops that were interesting and inspiring to me were the stage management and technology workshop and a discussion on how to get to New York led by union members from the city.
Throughout the week I was given the opportunity to talk to graduate programs and professionals about theatre. I feel that this was the greatest benefit and I am grateful for the opportunity that was awarded me.
