Late Night Musings

by Todd Reemtsma, NBS Section Chairperson

A New Chapter
“As much as I like winter, the schizophrenic weather we are experiencing this year is starting to get to me. Todd With spring just around the corner, I am doing my best to practice a little patience and enjoy the winter that remains,”  is what I wrote at the beginning of the March NBS Newsletter.  Somehow or another “justaround the corner” was further away than any of us thought.  I was just thinking that it only seems like yesterday that we were in Milwaukee and the cold wind was blowing off the lake with a few flurries in the air, and while the visit to Milwaukee was more than a month ago, the cold and the flurries were much more recent.
Thank you to all of the members of the Northern Boundary Section who joined us in Milwaukee, Wisconsin for the 53rd edition of the USITT Annual Conference.  It never ceases to amaze me that no matter where the USITT Conference happens to be we are always well represented and almost always fill up our meeting room.  For those of you that were not there and as a recap for those who were, we recognized our 2012-13 scholarship winners, held elections for our 2013-16 NBS Board members  (see results at the section officers page), heard from Alicia Wold about the continuing efforts to raise awareness of sustainability in theatre, and had the good fortune to have the fine folks at Southwest Minnesota State University volunteer to host our 2013 Northern Boundary Section Fall Conference, schduled for September 13 and 14!
And speaking of the Fall Conference, we will be having a NBS Board Meeting this summer and one of the key topics will be sessions for the conference.  If you have ideas for sessions or presenters, please pass them along to any of the NBS Board Members (contact info on section officers page).  We would also be interested in any other ideas you might have to help the USITT-NBS stay relevant and fun.
I am looking forward to working with the new 2013-16 NBS Board and want to offer a great big thank you to the 2010-13 board members for all of your contributions and hard work.  I wish you all a very pleasant and fulfilling summer and look forward to seeing you in Marshall in September!
