Men's hockey ties with Augsburg for second consecutive night

Following a 2-2 overtime tie against Augsburg on Friday night, the St. Olaf men's hockey team traveled to Minneapolis to take on Augsburg College for a second time. Continuing the momentum from the previous night, bot teams once again exchanged goals evenly, with the Saturday night game ending in a 4-4 overtime tie.

Augsburg once again jumped out to an early lead on the power play. A tipped shot from the point went over Hastis glove giving the Auggies a quick lead. It would not last for long. Two minutes later Joel Ihrie (So., Woodinville, Wash.) fired a long shot through the goalies legs tying the game off an assist from Mitch Mudra (FY, Edina, Minn.).

For the Oles second goal, Mudra would once again be in on the play. This time he fed a pass to Kyle Hilmershausen (FY, Wausau, Wi) as he streaked down the right wing boards. He got to the top of the circle and rifled a shot low to the far side beating the goalie.

The Oles would take the 2-1 lead into the second period. Augsburg, who went 3-6 on the power play, used the man advantage to knot the game at two apiece. Josh Biser (So., Waunakee, Wis.) came onto the ice for a line change, quickly jumped into the rush and slammed home a loose puck in front of the net. Augsburg tied the game again on the power play, but Biser had the answer a few minutes later. Getting a great pass from the sideboards from Ron Guild, Biser deflected the pass into the upper corner of the net, giving the Oles a 4-3 lead. Augsburg tied the game off of a face off, beating Hasti with a shot over the blocker. The Oles move to 3-2-3 in the MIAC and 6-7-4 overall. The Oles return to action this weekend for a two game series with Saint John's. The Friday, February 6th game is at home at 8:00 p.m.
