The St. Olaf women's basketball team traveled to St. Joseph, Minnesota on Wednesday, February 4, with the hopes of knocking off the second ranked team in the MIAC, College of Saint Benedict. The Oles could not contend with the Blazers, and lost the contest, 90-60.

The game started slow, but with 13 minutes left to play, the Blazers took control and went on a 15-4 run. A 3-pointer by Holly Grimsrud (FY, Zumbrota, Minn.) brought the Oles back within seven points with five minutes to play, but the Blazers were up by 12 at the half. The Oles shot 57% from behind the arc, hitting four of seven attempts.

The Oles could not find the spark they were looking for as they entered the second half. Saint Benedict started the half on a 24-3 run, making the score 62-31 in favor of the Blazers. The Oles played with them after that, but it was a bit too late. A long range three-pointer by Jenny Dettle (FY, Fridley, Minn.) in the last seconds brought the deficit to 30, rounding out the final score at 90-60. Although the Blazers shot an impressive 60.6% from the field in the second half, the Oles shot above their average, hitting 13 of 30 for 43.3%.

The Oles had four players in double figures. Leading the effort was Grimsrud with 17, followed by Jill Johnson (Sr., Butterfield, Minn.) with 13 points. Molly Simon (Jr., Hudson, Wisc.) and Sarah McBroom (Sr., Mora, Minn.) had ten apiece. Christine Schwictenberg (So., Hopkins, Minn.) also chipped in with six assists, seven points, and two steals. The Oles outrebounded the Blazers 27-26.

The Oles host the Bethel College Royals Saturday, February 7. Tip-off is at 1:00 p.m. at Skoglund Arena.
