Carleton too tough for Ole women's basketball

The St. Olaf women's basketball team traveled across town to take on the Carleton College Knights on Saturday, January 31. The Knights, one of the top ten ranked Division III teams in the nation, defeated the Oles 77-47.

St. Olaf came out slow and found themselves down 9-0 early into the game. The Knights expanded on this lead throughout the half, leading by as much as 15 points, at two different times. The Oles were down 39-27 at the break after Christina Sampson (FY, North Branch, Minn.) hit a layup at the buzzer.

The Oles played the Knights tough for the beginning of the second half and kept within 16 until 11:36 left in the contest. Carletons precision play, with strong shooting, few turnovers, and tough rebounding kept the Oles out of reach.

Jill Johnson (Sr., Butterfield, Minn.) led the Oles with 13 points and eight rebounds. Holly Grimsrud (FY, Zumbrota, Minn.) and Sarah McBroom (Sr., Mora, Minn.) each added eight points, while McBroom also blocked three shots.

St. Olaf travels to St. Paul to face the College of St. Catherine on Monday, February 2, at 7:30 p.m.
