Men's tennis opens season with 7-2 victory

The St. Olaf Men's Tennis began their season with a 7-2 victory at Bethel College on Saturday, February 7th, 2004. The match was closely contested with many of the matches being decided by super-tiebreakers. A ten point super tiebreaker is played in singles to decide who wins when players split sets.

In the match, St. Olaf began by winning two of the three doubles matches. The Nagel brothers (Oglesby, Ill.) defeated their opponents at first doubles and Dan Cohen (St. Paul, Minn.) and Mike Matsuura (St. Cloud, Minn.) paired up to win their match at second doubles.

In singles, the Oles won five of six contests. Bethel provided stiff competition in each of these matches. First year Oles, Chase Donaldson (Kildeer, Ill.) and Bryon McDonald (Hudson, Wis.) picked up their first collegiate victories. The others who came out on top were Ted and Tom Nagel, and Dan Cohen.

The Oles (1-0 and 1-0 in conference) play their next match on Friday night at the Owatonna Tennis and Fitness Center with St. John's University. The match will begin with doubles at 6:30pm..
