Ole men's basketball falls to Bethel, 70-60
February 8, 2004
St. Olaf lost to Bethel in a Saturday afternoon game. The Oles trailed by nine points at halftime and could not recover, losing 70-60.
In the first half, the game was close because both teams had several turnovers which lead to some easy baskets on each end. As the half came to close, the Royals were able to capitalize on a few Oles turnovers and take a nine point lead to the locker room.
In the second half, the Royals jumped out to a 17 point lead, but St. Olaf chipped it down to five with 2:51 remaining, but that was as close as they would get, as Bethel made their free throws to seal the win, 70-60.
Leading the Oles were Andy Grimsrud (Jr. Zumbrota, Minn.) and Matt Schlenker (Sr. Rochester, Minn.) with 11 points, Schlenker also grabbed seven rebounds. Jon Butala (FY West St. Paul, Minn.) and Ted Gonsior (Jr. Centerville, Minn.) both chipped in ten points.
The loss drops the Oles to 4-12 in the MIAC and 7-14 overall. The next game for St. Olaf is Wednesday, February 11th, when they travel to Minneapolis to play Augsburg College. Tip-off time is at 7:30 p.m.
