The Oles hosted Augsburg College on Wednesday February 11 at Skoglund Arena. Despite a strong first half, the Oles were five points away from a victory, and lost the contest to the Auggies, 61-57.

The Oles came out remarkably strong in the first half. The Auggies hit the first shot of the game, but St. Olaf never trailed after that. They shot 57.1% from behind the arc, shot 80% from the free throw line, and only turned the ball over three times. McBroom made her presence known early, scoring 13 of her 17 points in the first half. The Oles led by eight at the half, 36-28.

The contest was a game of two distinct halves. The Auggies capitalized on the Oles seven turnovers in the first eight minutes of play and tied the game at 40 a piece. The game remained close until the Auggies went on a 9-0 run, bringing the score to 58-49 in favor of Augsburg, with 4:53 to play. The Oles brought the game back within three points with a jumper by McBroom with :30 left on the clock, but could not regain the lead for the win.

McBroom led the Oles in scoring with 17 points and three blocks, followed closely by Holly Grimsrud (FY, Zumbrota, Minn.) with 16. Christina Sampson (FY, North Branch, Minn.) led all players with 12 rebounds. Christine Schwictenberg (So., Hopkins, Minn.) contributed with six assists and four steals.

Prior to the game, seniors Kelly Sweeney (Oakdale, Minn.), Bekah Colbeth (Loveland, Colo.), Sarah McBroom (Mora, Minn.), and Jill Johnson (Butterfield, Minn.) were recognized by their coaches and teammates.

Next up for the Oles is an away game on Saturday, February 14 at Macalester at 1:00 p.m.
