Women's tennis defeats Saint Benedict, 6-3

The St. Olaf women's tennis team came out on top by the score of 6-3 in a very competitive match with Saint Benedict on Saturday, February 14th. The match was played at Owatonna Indoor Tennis and Fitness Center. The match was close from the very beginning. The doubles ended with Saint Benedict up two matches to one. Kristen Buchta (Jr., Neenah, Wis) and Beth Erie (Jr., Rochester, Minn) were the St. Olaf winners at number one doubles. After the doubles, the singles matches were played. The matches were very close with three coming down to super-tiebreakers (if players split sets a super ten point tie-breaker decides the match). Fortunately for the Oles, they won each of those super-tiebreaker matches. Those wins provided the difference in the match and the Oles went on to win five of the six singles matches.

Jamie Brau (Sr., Arlington, Minn), Sarah Pray (FY. Madison, Wis.) and Butcha remain undefeated in singles play. Lauren Benson (So., Appleton, Wis.) playing in her first singles match this year, picked up her first collegiate win. The Oles next match is at Concordia on Saturday, February 21st. The St. Olaf women's tennis team is 1-1 in MIAC play and 2-1 overall.e
