Women's hockey earns season high seventh shutout, with 7-0 victory over Hamline

On Friday, February 13th, the St. Olaf womens hockey team hosted Hamline University for the second game of their two game series. Following the 6-0 shutout on Thursday night, the Oles netted a second consecutive shutout with a 7-0 victory. This is the Oles seventh shutout this season and their fourth sweep of a series. Early in the first period Claire LeDuc (FY., St. Paul, Minn.) put the Oles on the board after a pass from Kendra Ruff (So., Willmar, Minn.). The second goal came off the stick of Lindsay Weier (So., Menomonie, Minn.) with an assist from Sarah Ray (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) and Maria Richardson (FY., New Brighton, Minn.). The Ole women skated into the first break with a 2-0 lead.

St. Olaf generated a lot of offense in the second period as they scored four goals and had 17 shots on goal. Not long into the period Weier scored her second goal of the game off a face off taken by Brit Schultheis (Jr., Shoreview, Minn.). Later in the same shift, Kirsten Paulson (So., Moorhead, Minn.) pick up the Oles fourth goal, off an assist from Kayla Wente (Jr., Waterloo, Iowa) and Weier. Richardson got the puck from Kate Barnett (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) and skated out of the corner and shot at the top of the face off circle. Brittany Beck (Fr., Sartell, Minn.) scored the sixth goal of the game off a pass from Tracy Nolan (Fr., Edinboro, PA). As St. Olaf went into the final break, the owned a 6-0 lead.

About five minutes in the final period, Ray put the puck in the Pipers net. Barnett earned her second assist of the game. Another highlight of the third period was that Andrea Smith (Jr., Burnsville, Minn.) played two shifts as a forward near the end of the game, since she normally plays goaltender.

The Oles took the 7-0 shutout, their second consecutive shutout and thier secenth shutout of the season. With the series sweep, the Oles have earned four series sweeps this season as well. The team is currently on a three game winning streak.

Goaltender, Kerry Rollwagen (Jr., Mendota Heights, Minn.), earned her fourth shutout of the season recording 10 saves.

St. Olaf is now third in the MIAC with a record of 9-5-0 and 11-7-2 overall. The Oles next challenge is a non-conference game, away, against River Falls on Wednesday, February 18th at 7:05 p.m.
