Hamiline too much for women's hoops

February 23, 2004

The Oles played their final game of the season on Saturday, February 21 against the Hamline University Pipers. The Oles fell short in this final contest, losing to the Pipers 79-63.

The Oles fell behind early in the contest and could never catch up. The Pipers scored 14 points before the Oles hit their first basket. They did come within 7 points during the first half, but could come no closer the rest of the game. The Oles went into the half down by 10, 38-28.

Not able to regain confidence in the second half, the Oles found themselves down by 20 after just 3 minutes of play. Hamline maintained this lead throughout the rest of the contest. Turnovers and poor rebounding plagued the Oles throughout the game.

The Oles were led by Molly Simon (Jr., Hudson, Wisc.) with 20 points, followed by Jill Johnson (Sr., Butterfield, Minn.) with 11 points and 4 steals. The Oles shot 43.4 percent from the field to the Pipers 46 percent and were outrebounded 27-48.

The Oles end their season 2-23, but have a promising field of players returning next year.
