On Saturday, Feb. 21, with a home crowd cheering for him at the Tostrud Classic, Peter Cathcart (So., Lakeville, Minn.) provisionally qualified for the Division III national meet in the shot put, with a throw of 52-8. On the day, Cathcart set two St. Olaf records as well, in the shot put and in the weight throw, setting that record by throwing 50-8. Cathcart is currently 12th nationally in the shot put and hopes to move up even further this weekend to increase his chances of making it to the national meet.

The Ole men competed against some stiff competition, facing off against St. Thomas, Carleton, Luther, and the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. Their performances benefited from the high level of competition with a number of athletes winning their events. In the 800 meters Tom Cruse (FY, Hastings, Minn.) and Jesse Horst (So., Minneapolis, Minn.) finished 1-2 with times of 1:57.68 and 1:58.58 respectively.

The middle-distance dominance continued with Sam Hauck (So., Shoreview, Minn.) racing to a victory in the 1000 meters with his time of 2:33.38. Peder Arneson (Sr., Montevideo, Minn.) was also a champion, outpacing the competition in the 5000 meters by running 15:24.46.

The Oles will run their last indoor home meet this Saturday, Feb.28 at The Qualifier where athletes will have one last chance to qualify for the MIAC Championships. The conference championships will be held on March 5 & 6 at Saint Johns in Collegeville, Minn.
