Concordia stops men's hockey at home

With just four games remaining, the Oles needed to beat Concordia in at least one game to put them into position to make the playoffs for the first time in 12 years. However, the Cobbers stopped the Oles 6-4 in the first game of the two game weekend series.

The Oles called on Dan Kehler (So. Woodbury, MN) to get the job done in net on Friday as the Oles played in front of a packed Structure. The fans rocked the boards all night with hopes of playoffs looming in the future. However they would have to wait one more day to celebrate, as Concordia took an early 2-0 lead.

Ted Bickle (So. Chanhassen, MN) drew the Oles within one with a shot from the front of the net. The Oles scored early in the second to tie the game but gave up three unanswered goals to the Cobbers. The Oles out shot Concordia 50-31. Finally at the end of the second period, the Oles began to pour it on, scoring one goal at the end of the period and another to open up the third. However, it was too late for the Oles, as the Cobbers scored an empty net goal to seal the deal 6-4.

Both teams meet again on Saturday, Feb. 21 for game two of the weekend series at 2:00 p.m.
