Men's hockey splits weekend series with Concordia, with 3-1 win Saturday
February 22, 2004
The St. Olaf men's hockey team returned to the home ice on Saturday afternoon looking for a split with the Concordia Cobbers. The Oles held on for the 3-1 victory and look to keep their postseason hopes alive. The Oles fell behind early in the first, as Garret Hasti (Sr. St. Louis Park, Minn.) got beat by a shot on the power play. The Oles answered with a power play goal of their own, as Will Wetterlin (So., Edina, Minn.) ripped a shot off the post to beat the goalie.
The Oles took the lead in the second when Kyle Hilmershausen (FY, Wausau, Wis.) slipped the puck under the goalies pads from in front of the net.
The Oles continued to dominate the Cobbers for the rest of the game; keeping the puck in their zone for the majority of the contest. Dan Norsten (Sr., Eagan, Minn.) iced the game with an empty net goal in the final minute, to give St. Olaf a 3-1 win. The Oles take on Hamline this weekend for their final regular season weekend games. A weekend sweep puts St. Olaf in the MIAC postseason playoffs for the first time in 12 years.
