Men's Cross-Country finishes season with 5th place finish at regions

The Ole men's cross-country team finished their season strong, placing 5th in an extremely competitive race at the Regions meet in Grinnell, Iowa. The Ole men went into the race knowing that they would need to be one of the top three teams to qualify for the Nationals meet and came agonizingly close. Wartburg College, led by national title contender Josh Moen's 1st place finish were able to upset Nebraska Wesleyan for the team title, scoring 75 points to Wesleyan's 86. Loras was able to nab the third and final Nationals spot by scoring 108 points. St. Thomas barely edged the Ole men, 116 to 117 points.

Once again the Oles were led by Kelly Fulton (Jr., Billings, Mont.) who turned in an impressive race to finish in 8th place with his time of 25:02 over the 8k course, individually qualifying him for the National meet. Sam Hauck (So., Shoreview, Minn.) continued his string of gutsy races, taking 13th place in 25:24, and missing out on a Nationals spot by one place. Peder Arneson (Sr., Montevideo, Minn.) closed out his cross-country career by running 25:29, for 19th place. Malcolm Richards (Jr., Minneapolis, Minn.) followed close behind in 22nd place with a time of 25:31. Nic Reichenbach (Sr., Hastings, Minn.) stepped up to score for the Oles by finishing in 26:36 for 55th place.

The Ole harriers came into the meet unranked, while the four teams that finished in front of them were all ranked top 25 nationally. The Ole men also took some solace in the defeat of their cross-town rivals Carleton, and the host school Grinnell, two teams that also came into the meet nationally ranked. Fulton will face off against Moen and the rest of the Nationals contenders in Hanover, Indiana on Saturday, Nov. 22.
