In a game loaded with physical play and frequent whistles, the St. Olaf men's basketball team traveled to Decorah, Iowa for the season opener against Luther College, with a 65-57 win.

St. Olaf connected on just 37 percent of its attempts, while Luther managed 35 percent from the field. The difference in this contest was St. Olaf's ability to put the ball into the basketball from behind the three-point line. The Oles connected on 12-of-28 attempts for 43 percent. The Norse shot 22 percent from beyond the arch, connecting on just 4-of-18 attempts.

The Oles had four players reach double digits. Atop this list was Ted Gonsior with 17. He was followed by Jon Butala and Pat Fraser who both had 11, and Andy Grimsrud chipped in 10. Butala also led the Oles with eight rebounds.

The win was the 100th win for Coach Dan Kosmoski, who is in his tenth year at St. Olaf. Following the game, Luther College officials presented Coach Kosmoski with the game ball.

Next up for the Oles is the MIAC conference opener against Concordia on November 29th in Moorhead at 8:00 p.m.
