Women's hockey sweeps St. Catherine in weekend series

On Saturday, November 22 the St. Olaf Womens hockey team traveled to the Ridder Ice Arena in Minneapolis, Minn. to play the College of St. Catherine. With five different people scoring for the Oles, they pulled out a 6-4 win to sweep the weekend series against St. Catherine.
In the first period St. Catherine jumped ahead 1-0, but the Oles answered back when Sarah Ray (Sr., St. Paul, Minn.) put one in the net for the 1-1 tie. Maria Richardson (Fr., New Brighton, Minn.) scored, with an assist from Kate Barnett (Jr.-C- Burnsville, Minn.), to give the Oles a 2-1 lead. At the end of the first period St. Catherine scored again, to tie the game up again at 2-2.
In the second period, Richardson (Fr., New Brighton, Minn) scored her second goal of the game on an assist from Melissa Mueller (So., Lakeville, Minn.). The Oles fought hard for the rest of the period and went into the second break with a 3-2 advantage.
Erin Baxter (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) scored less than two minutes into the third period to give the Oles a 4-2 lead. Baxters goal was off a pass from Richardson (FY, New Brighton, Minn.). Minutes later, Claire LeDuc (Fr., St. Paul,Minn.) scored her first goal of the season, as the Oles took a three goal lead. Jill Rowan (FY, Northfield, Minn.) and Ray both took penalties as the Oles played 3-on-5. St. Catherine capitalized on this and scored a goal to make the game 5-3. Kirsten Paulson (So., Moorhead, Minn.) also scored her first collegiate goal from an assist from Mueller to put the Oles ahead 6-3. St. Catherine scored a power play goal late in the third period, but the St. Olaf held on for the 6-4 victory.
The Oles next game is against Saint Benedict on Saturday, December 6th at the Northfield Arena at 2:00 p.m.
