Oles drop Ripon 7-4, still alive in tourney

The St. Olaf baseball team stayed alive in the NCAA Midwest Regional with a 7-4 win over Ripon College Friday afternoon in Oshkosh, Wis. The Oles broke a 4-4 tie, scoring three runs in the bottom of the eighth to secure the win.
John Haugen (Jr., Mahtomedi, Minn.) earned the win, working the final 1 1/3 innings. Eric Tobias (FY, Prescott, Minn.) started and pitched a strong seven innings.
Mike Ludwig (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) was 3-for-5 with two RBI's and two runs in the win. Ludwig's pop fly single that blew beyond the second basemen in the eighth drove in two runs and scored another on a throwing error.
Dan Johnson (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) was 2-for-4 with three RBI's and Brad Baglien (Jr., Arden Hills, Minn.) 2-for-5 for St. Olaf.
Each team had 11 hits. Tyler Witkowski had three hits for Ripon.
St. Olaf will play tomorrow morning at 11:30 a.m. in a second game against UW-Whitewater. The winner of the St. Olaf/Whitewater game will advance to meet UW-Oshkosh in the afternoon game at 3:00 p.m.
With a win tomorrow morning, the Oles would advance to the Midwest Regional Championship, where they would need two more wins to advance to the Division III World Series in Appleton, Wisconsin next week.
