Ole Women win fifth consecutive MIAC championship, Daymont wins individual title
November 2, 2002
The St. Olaf women's cross country team won their fifth consecutive MIAC championship conference title on Sat., Nov. 2nd at Como Park. Leading the way for the Ole pack and finishing first with a time of 18:15.7, was senior Megan Daymont (Northfield, Minn.).
The Ole women won the conference title for a fifth year in a row, due to outstanding performances by their top seven runners. The Ole women had three finishers in the Top 6, in addition to Daymont at first, Kari Koos finished fifth and Marit Grorud finished sixth. Rounding out the scoring for the Oles was Brenna Bray in 11th, Meredith Fahrner in 21st, Kezia Manlove in 27th and Rachel Pedersen in 33rd. Once again, three first year runners finished in the top seven for the Oles. All conference honors were awarded to Daymont, Koos, Grorud, and Bray with honorable mention to Fahrner. Congratulations on your fifth consecutive MIAC title! The season is not completely over for the Oles yet, though. The Junior Varsity team will race on Thursday, November 8th, at Carleton in the Karhu Shoe race (a dual between the two schools were the women dress in costume, instead of uniform). The Varsity squad will rest this week, but then travel to the regional meet at Grinell College on Saturday, November 15th. With the national meet held at St. Olaf College, look for the Oles to take the energy from the MIAC Championship and race to gain a spot to race on their home course at the NCAA National Meet on November 23rd.
