Women's soccer holds onto win over St. Catherine
November 4, 2002
The St. Olaf women's soccer team managed to hold onto the 2-1 victory over the St Catherine Wildcats in St. Paul, on Saturday, November 2nd. The game was close, right to the end, with both teams applying a lot of pressure throughout. The Oles scored the first two goals of the game. The first score came in the firs half by Kristi Parks (Jr., Plymouth, Minn.) with an assist from Jill Gauger (Sr., Bloomington, Minn.) The Oles worked the ball up the left flank with a final pass coming from Gauger to Parks in the penalty box. Parks managed to get a shot off in high pressure. The ball bounced off the far post and then into the net for the score. The next Ole goal was scored late in the first half when captain Becca Loerch (Sr., Apple Valley, Minn.) took a left-footed shot from just outside the penalty box. The shot beat the goalkeeper to her left, and slid in the goal, just inside the post. St. Catherine's was able to find the back of the net, with less than a minute left, for a 2-1 score. As the last 30 seconds ticked off the clock, St. Catherine's didn't tie the game, as the Oles went home with a 2-1 win. The win moves St. olaf up to fourth in the MIAC standings with a record of 5-2-2. Their overall record is 9-4-3. The Oles will play their last game of the season Saturday, November 9th at 11:00 A.M. at St. Olaf on Rolf Melby Field, as they host cross-town rival Carleton.
