Chris Daymont named 2002 MIAC Women's Cross Country Coach of the Year

Chris Daymont of St. Olaf has been selected the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) women's cross country coach of the year. Daymont's Oles defended their MIAC title for the fifth consecutive year and are currently ranked 11th in the nation. The St. Olaf women?s cross country team will compete at the NCAA Central Region meet in Grinnell, Iowa, on Saturday, November 16. Daymont who was the 1995 NCAA III Central Region Coach of the Year, is currently in her 21st season at the helm of the St. Olaf women's cross country program. Success has been a trademark for her, accompanying runners to national championships for 10 consecutive seasons.

The hosting of the Minnesota State High School cross country championships on the St. Olaf campus were facilitated by Daymont and is a venue used annually since 1992. St. Olaf is busy preparing to host the NCAA Division III National Cross Country Championships to be held on November 23, 2002. Daymont hopes to be coaching her team, led by her daughter, senior and co-captain, Megan Daymont, on the Oles home championship course.

A graduate of the State University of New York-Cortland, Daymont earned her M.S. from Syracuse University. Daymont serves as a distance and middle distance clinician around the region. Teaching in the department of physical education as an associate professor, Daymont specializes in exercise physiology, as well as teaching courses in weight training and fitness. In addition to coaching women?s cross country, Daymont also serves as the head women?s track and field coach, which includes both indoor and outdoor seasons.
