Winstead book examines family ghosts from Civil Rights era

St. Olaf English instructor Mary Winstead grew up in south Minneapolis and always thought her Southern relatives were warm and welcoming. Then she found out a family secret -- that a distant cousin masterminded one of the most horrific crimes of the Civil Rights era. A recent profile in the Minneapolis-based Star Tribune describes Winstead's process of dealing with the awful truth in her new book, Back to Mississippi.
