Women's Hockey loses to Hamline

On Saturday, November 9, the Oles had a non-conference match up against the Hamline Pipers. The Oles played a very competitive first period with a total of 10 shots on goal. Both teams played strong defense, keeping the period scoreless until 15:01. The Oles took the lead with Jennifer Luke's (So, Bloomington, Minn.) first career goal. The assist was awarded to Melissa Mueller (Fr, Lakeville, Minn.).

The second period was a strong offensive effort for the Oles with 18 shots on goal, however the Piper defense remained strong as well. At 11:19 in the second, the Pipers tied the game. At 13:56, the Pipers took the lead with an unassisted goal.

Going into the third period one goal behind, the Oles were ready to jump back. The Oles tied the game early in the third at 3:41. Kayla Wente (So, Waterloo, Iowa) scored with the assists from Sarah Ray (Jr, St. Paul, Minn.) and Lindsay Weier (Fr, Menomonie, Wis.). However, the Pipers had a strong offensive effort throughout the third with a totally of 10 shots on goal. At 9:46 the Pipers took the lead and at 12:46, the Pipers scored again brining the scored to 4-2. The Oles put 11 shots on goal in the third. At 16:44, Weier scored unassisted reducing the Pipers' lead to one. In the last minute of the game, the Oles pulled goaltender Andrea Smith (So, Burnsville, Minn.) to get a six on five advantage in attempt to tie the game.

Despite the Oles' 39 shots on goal for the game and Smith's 18 saves, the Oles lost to the Pipers 3-4. The Oles' next game will be on Friday, November 15 at 7pm against Concordia College. The Oles will travel to Moorhead for a two game series.
