Women's Hockey lose a close one to St. Catherine

On Wednesday, November 20, the Oles traveled up to St. Paul to play a late game against the St. Catherine Wildcats. This match up proved to be a very competitive one. The Wildcats had a tremendous offensive effort in the first period with at total of 17 shots on goal. Ole goaltender, Andrea Smith (So, Burnsville, Minn.) had a strong period with some amazing saves. The period remained scoreless until St. Kate's took the lead at 17:07. However, the Oles answered back right away with a power play goal at 19:01 by Sarah Ray (Jr, St. Paul, Minn.). The assists were awarded to Kate Barnett (So, Burnsville, Minn.) and Britny Schultheis (So, Shoreview, Minn.).
The second period was a back and forth battle with the Oles playing both strong offense and defense. Smith stopped all 8 shots that the Wildcats put on net and the Oles put 10 shots on goal against the Wildcats.
The third period was a crucial effort for Ole defense. The Wildcats put 12 shots on goal and the Ole defense stayed strong. At 13:33, the Oles received a minor penalty, which put the Wildcats on the power play. The one player advantage assisted St. Catherine in scoring the final goal of the game at 14:08.
The Oles put forth a very strong effort with at total of 19 shots on goal. Smith had a total of 35 saves for the game. Other Oles who had tremendous efforts this game include Barnett and Kayla Wente (So, Waterloo, Minn.). The Oles will face the Wildcats again on Saturday, November 23, at 7pm at the Northfield Ice Arena.
