On Saturday, November 23, the Oles hosted the College of St. Catherine Wildcats. After losing by one goal to the Wildcats on Wednesday, the Oles were ready for another chance against St. Kate's. The Oles came out strong in the first period an scored an early goal at 2:59 in the first period. Erin Baxter (So, Rosemount, Minn.) scored with the assist from Jennifer Welch (Fr, Bloomington, Minn.). The Oles continued to play well throughout the first period putting a total of 6 shots on goal. Ole goaltender Kerry Rollwagen (So, Mendota Heights, Minn.) stopped all 10 of the Wildcat's shots.

Going into the second period with a 1-0 lead, the Oles were forced to play strong defense as the Wildcats stepped up their offense. A string of penalties eventually forced the Oles to give up a power play goal to St. Kate's at 14:04 in the second period. As the second period ended, the game was tied at 1-1.

The third period proved to be a demonstration of strong efforts by both teams. And the referees continued to call many controversial penalties. Tensions were high, in that the game could go either way. The Oles took the lead at 10:53 in the third with a goal scored by Welch and the assist was awarded to Brit Schultheis (So, Shoreview, Minn.). At 17:14, the Oles scored again bringing their lead to two. Melissa Mueller (Fr, Lakeville, Minn.) scored with the assist from Baxter.

With two minutes left in the game, the Wildcats pulled their goalie for a 6 on 5 advantage. Ole defense remained strong. At 18:55, a penalty was called against the Oles, which brought the Wildcat advantage to a 6 on 4. However, the Ole defense still remained strong and a penalty was called against the Wildcats bringing it down to a one-man advantage again. The Oles were successful in holding the Wildcats and won the game with a final score of 3-1.

This was a huge win for the Oles and great efforts were put forth by Anne Whipple (Sr, Neenah, Wis.) and goaltender Rollwagen. Rollwagen had a total of 41 saves for the game. The Oles will next face off against UW-Steven's Point in Steven's Point on Wednesday, November 27 at 2pm.
