Oles hold on, win MIAC opener

St. Olaf built a 21-point halftime lead and defeated Concordia-Moorhead College 67-62 at Skoglund Athletic Center Saturday Afternoon.

Mike Ludwig (Sr., Blaine, Minn.) and Ted Gonsior (Soph., Centerville, Minn./Centennial) had 17 points apiece to lead the Oles (3-1, 1-0). Gonsior had 15 in the first half, all on three's, to pace the Ole offense. Ludwig had 13 of his output in the first as well.

Concordia (1-3, 0-1) cut the lead to as little as three. The Cobbers held St. Olaf to 4-of-20 and shot 52 percent from the floor to propel the comeback.

Justin Bonestroo (Sr., Stillwater, Minn.) added 16 points, five assists and five steals in the win. Bonestroo knocked down 3-of-5 from the arc.

Jared Swanson had 15 and Kevin Gilchrest 11 points to lead the Cobbers.

St. Olaf will play at Northwestern of Roseville Monday night a 7 p.m. in a non-conference game. On Saturday, St. Olaf travels to Winona for an MIAC contest with Saint Mary's. Both games, and all game this season, can be heard on 920 AM, KDHL.
