Womens track finished season strong

The St. Olaf women's track and field team concluded their season as a whole team with a successful finish at the Tommie Twilight, hosted by St. Thomas on Wednesday, May 1st. Throughout every event multiple personal records and bests were achieved. Becky Peterson (So., Plymouth, Minn.) and Megan Daymont (Jr., Northfield, Minn.) both set school records throughout the evening, as well as improving their settings for the national meet.

On the track, the Oles were lead by Daymont and Peterson. Daymont finished first in the 800-meter run, where she set a school record, automatically qualified for nationals and is currently ranked 2nd in the nation. Teammate Marit Grorud (So., Fremont, Nebr.) finished 4th in the 800, as well, where she also set a personal record. In fact, every St. Olaf athlete that competed in the 800 broke 3 minutes and set personal records. Abby Love (So., Appleton, Wisc.) and Kristy Gloe (So., Wisc.) both finished 6th and 7th, respectively, in the 400-meter run. Brigid Franey (Sr., Lexington, KY) led the long distance races and finished 4th in the 5,000 meter run. Peterson finished second in the 100-meter hurdles where she improved her provisional standings for nationals and set a new school record. Overall, though not many Oles placed in the running events, it was definitely a great meet for all runners as each one was able to see gains in their times.

The field events were lead by Jennifer Levenhagen (So., Appleton, Wisc.) who placed in shot put, discus, and javelin (3rd, 4th, and 7th, respectively). Each thrower found personal bests in at least one of the throwing events, proving the depth of the field athletes. Sarah Beggs (Sr., Klamath Falls, Oreg.) and Sonja Moe (FY, Northfield, Minn.) both finished 7th and 8th in triple jump.

The women now enter the MIAC conference track and field meet, which is held next Friday and Saturday (May 10-11) at Gustavus College in St. Peter. The MIAC heptathlon will be held this week at St. Olaf College, where Becky Peterson will be representing the St. Olaf women.
