Peterson competes in Heptathlon
May 6, 2002
St. Olaf's Becky Peterson (So., Plymouth, Minn.) represented her team this past Thursday and Friday at the MIAC Heptathlon Championship where she finished 4th overall, after leading the meet after the first day of competition. Peterson also provisionally qualified for the national heptathlon meet with her final score of 4250 points. This score placed her 2nd on the All-time Ole list.
The heptathlon allowed Peterson to set personal bests in 6 of the 7 events (high jump, shot put, 200 meter dash, 100 meter hurdles, long jump, and the 800 meter run). After the first day of competition, Peterson was leading with amazing performances in all events. But, even though she set personal bests in the 800 meter dash and long jump, it was not enough to maintain the lead throughout the two day event. One can be assured, though, that Peterson will be back to improve her marks at nationals and for next year's competition.
