On Saturday, September 29 and Sunday, September 30 the St. Olaf men?s soccer team were victorious in two contests. The first opponent was conference foe Concordia and Sunday?s contest was with non-conference, Colorado College.

Saturday?s game was against conference opponent Concordia College. The Oles entered the match 2-3-1 overall, 1-0-1 in the MIAC. In the first half, the Oles looked sharp controlling the pace of the game. The Oles struck first early in the half when Karl Wilbur (Sr., Edina, Minn.) scored on a header from a cross by Ben Clymer (Jr., Hudson, Wis.). Later in the half, Wilbur would find the back of the net again when he side-volleyed a ball past the Concordia keeper from a long cross by Matt Osborne (FY, St. Paul, Minn.). The Oles entered halftime feeling confident with a 2-0 lead.

In the second half Concordia pressed hard to get back into the match. Concordia scored midway through the half off of a header from a corner kick. Concordia continued to press, but the victory was secured when Brian Smith (Sr., Fort Calhoun, Neb.) headed a ball off the line to thwart Concordia?s last good scoring chance. The Oles left Moorhead with a 2-1 victory moving their overall record to 3-3-1, 2-0-1 in the MIAC.

On Sunday the Oles hosted non-conference opponent Colorado College. Both Colorado and the Oles were coming off of victories from the day before. The first half produced no goals with possession switching back and forth.

In the second half, both teams had quality scoring chances. Both Karl Wilbur and Kyle Swanson (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) hit the post on scoring chances, and Ross MacMullan (Sr., Birchwood, Minn.) made a couple big saves for the Oles. Regulation ended a 0-0 tie.

The Oles broke through in the first overtime when Swanson found Wilbur on a direct free kick for a game-winning header. The 1-0 victory moves the Oles overall record to 4-3-1.

The Oles have won four straight and are confident going into their next match against conference rival Macalester College. The game is at 7:30 pm on Wednesday, October 3 at Scots Stadium in St. Paul on the campus of Macalester College.
