The St. Olaf women?s soccer team made the four-hour trip to Moorhead on Saturday, September 29th to play the Cobbers of Concordia. The trip turned out to be well worth the drive. The Oles started the game incredibly strong and made it immediately obvious who was going to control this game. In the first eight minutes the Oles scored three times. The first goal came at the 58 second mark and was scored by Kristi Parks (So, Plymouth, Minn.) and was assisted by Sarah Cornell (FY, Minnetonka, Minn.). The next goal, just two minutes later, was finished by Emily Klamm (FY, Mt. Prospect, Ill.). Parks also had a part in that one with the assist. The Oles again changed the scoreboard just five minutes later with a goal from Carolyn Detjen (Jr, Juneau, Ak.) which was assisted by both Klamm and Karen Hamre (Sr, Roseville, Minn.). The Oles continued the scoring within another ten minutes as Parks put pressure on a shaky sweeper, controlled the ball, and slid another shot by the goalie. The Oles went into halftime with a secure 4-0 lead.

The second half began with Concordia coming out hard but still unable to put anything past the Oles. Five minutes into the second half the Oles once again added to their total. This time it was Stacy Gauger (Sr, Bloomington, Minn.) finishing a shot that came across the goal-mouth from Detjen. The final Ole goal finished another hat trick for Parks, the second hat trick in two consecutive games. In the 59th minute, Parks scored unassisted. The Cobbers? only break came in the 65th minute when they were awarded a penalty kick. They were able to finish the free kick past diving Ole keeper Elizabeth Brandell (So, Apple Valley, Minn.). Brandell finished the game with seven saves. Jillian Helseth (Jr, Hartford, SD) took Brandell?s place late in the game and came away with four saves. The Oles were out shot by the Cobbers 17 to 19.

The Oles now move to 3-0 in the conference and 6-1 overall. This third conference win places them third in the conference behind St. Thomas and Carleton. Their next match is also a conference game at 4:00pm on Tuesday, October 3 versus Macalester College at St. Olaf College.
