The Ole men golfers continued their strong, steady play last weekend at the Twin Cities Classic hosted by Gustavus. With this being the Oles last tournament before the conference match at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, it was important that they had a strong showing in order to prepare for the most important contest of the year.

Round two of the tournament was held at Elk River Country Club in Elk River, Minnesota. This course had very small and fast greens making the short game difficult. The Oles improved four strokes and fired a team total of 325 for a tournament total of 985 putting them in the middle of the pack. The low score for the Oles on day two was junior Erik Polzin who shot a smooth 77 and seemed to have his game in top form. Following him with another strong showing was first year Pat Gilles with a second consecutive 80 in tournament play. Sophomore Brandt Uthus improved and continued the consistency that he has shown all year with an 82 in the second round. Sophomore Todd Dulin struggled after a solid first round with an 86 on day two. Reid Plumbo improved with an 88 in his second round.

Day three of the Twin Cities Classic was held at the beautiful Midland Hills Country Club in St. Paul, Minnesota. The only excuse the Oles had on day three of the tournament was near freezing temperatures, which produced frost that caused an hour delay to the start of the third round. The Oles had a tough time in the cold temperatures and the greens were a task themselves, as they shot a tournament total of 331. For the third consecutive day, the Oles had a different golfer leading the way, showing the depth of the team. Brandt Uthus continued his consistency and improvement firing a solid 79 for a three-day total of 245, placing him tied for second on the team for the weekend. Erik Polzin played well again in the third round with a score of 82 for a team low total for the tournament of 240. Pat Gilles played well and shot an 85 for a tournament total of 245, which tied him with Brandt Uthus for second on the team. Reid Plumbo found his game in the third round with a solid 85 on a difficult golf course for a three-day total of 263. Todd Dulin struggled in the final round and had to take a penalty and shot a 91 for tournament total of 261 placing him in third on the team for the weekend.

The Oles showed their team depth at the Twin Cities Classic and feel very confident heading into the conference championship next week on October 5,6 at the Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids, Minnesota.
