On Thursday, October 11, the St. Olaf men?s soccer team hosted non-conference opponent Luther College. The Oles entered the contest with an overall record of 5-5-1 looking to bounce back from their loss to Simpson College earlier in the week.

In the first half, the Oles dominated possession. Unfortunately they could not tally a goal for their efforts. St. Olaf entered halftime with a 0-0 draw, but optimistic about their play.

In the second half, the Oles came out flat compared to their first half performance. This resulted in two early goals for Luther. St. Olaf fought back from the 0-2 deficit, and came to within one when Kully Nelson (Sr., White Bear Lake, Minn.) received a pass from Ben Clymer (Jr., Hudson, Wis.) and placed the ball past the Luther keeper midway into the second half. The Oles pushed to even the match and almost did so when Kyle Swanson (Sr., Cottage Grove, Minn.) played a through ball to Clymer with two minutes remaining. Clymer struck the ball into the keeper?s hands. The Oles had one more good look at net with 12 seconds left but could not convert. The final whistle blew giving the Oles a 2-1 loss.

The loss moves the Oles overall record to 5-6-1. St. Olaf will next be in action at 1:00 PM on Sunday, October 14, when they host conference opponent St. Thomas University at Rolf Mellby Memorial Field on the campus of St. Olaf College.
