Oles Disappointed with Loss to St. Thomas
October 15, 2001
On Sunday, October 14 the St. Olaf men?s soccer team hosted conference opponent University of St. Thomas. The Oles entered the contest on a two-game skid in which they lost close contests to Simpson College and Luther College earlier in the week. Going into the match, the Oles possessed a 3-1-1 record in the MIAC.
St. Olaf started strong in the first half maintaining much of the possession and creating multiple opportunities to score. Unfortunately, the Oles could not find the back of the net. Midway through the half, St. Thomas snuck through and finished giving the Oles a 0-1 deficit at half.
The second half was much like the first for the Oles; scoring chances were there but the opportunities were lost. St. Thomas added one more goal during the half to give them a 2-0 lead. The Oles pushed hard late in the half and had chances to score, but were ultimately disappointed with a 2-0 loss to St. Thomas.
The loss moves the St. Olaf to 3-2-1 in the MIAC, 5-7-1 overall. The Oles will next be in action at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, October 17, when they travel to Collegeville to take on conference opponent Saint John?s University. The next home game will be at 1:00 pm, Saturday, October 20, when the Oles host non-conference opponent Nebraska Wesleyan at Rolf Mellby Memorial Field on the campus of St. Olaf College.
