Mark Bresnan Named NCAA Postgraduate Scholar

Track athlete Mark Bresnan ('01, Indianola, Ia) was named as a recipient of prestigious NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. This scholarship is highly competitive and nominations are from all NCAA divisions I, II, and III. Bresnan was one of 58 men nationally and one of 40 division III student-athletes to receive this award. The scholarship is $5000 to be used towards postgraduate education.

All-American Bresnan finished fourth in the 800 M in a time of 1:52.50. Going into the championship meet, Bresnan had the fourth best time in the nation when he ran 1:51.87 for a first place finish in the MIAC championships and the co-most valuable performance. Since the beginning of indoor track and field, Bresnan is the only male athlete to compete in all three NCAA championships in the same academic year. He competed in cross country, finished second at the indoor championships and fourth at the outdoor championships. Bresnan currently holds the school records for the outdoor 800M and the indoor 4 x 400 M relay.

Bresnan is a three-time indoor MIAC champion , twice in the 800M and once in the 600yds. He is also a three-time outdoor MIAC champion; three times 800M, once for the 600yds, and once for the 4 x 800 M relay. Bresnan is a 12 time All-Conference Champion from 1998-2001 and a 7 time individual Conference Champion. In addition, Bresnan was All Central Region in cross country and an individual qualifier for the NCAA championships.

Bresnan was captain of the track team, an English major and graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2001 from St. Olaf with a 3.70 gpa. He was also a writer for the sports information office.
