Womens Track and Field has Big Week

The St. Olaf Women's Track and Field competed Wednesday at the Tommie Twilight Meet at the University of St. Thomas and again on Friday at Macalester's Bag Pipe Invitational. The Oles took advantage of the first good weather conditions of the season and their performances reflected the ideal conditions.
At the Tommie Twilight Meet sophomore Megan Daymont (Northfield, Minn.) qualified provisionally for the Nationals meet with her 4:41.95 performance in the 1500 meter run. Her winning time was Daymont's best ever outdoor 1500 M time and puts her on the Ole All Time Top Ten list. First year Marit Grorud (Fremont, Neb.) placed second in the 400 meter dash with a fast time of 1:00.29, which ranks her in the top five in the Conference. Senior co-captain Annie Sateren (Minneapolis, Minn.) finished second in the 3000 meter run in 10:40.95, with junior Brigid Franey (Lexington, Ky.) right behind in fourth. The Oles 4x400 meter relay team, running with two alternates, and anchored by Daymont's 58 second relay split, raced to the fastest time of the season. The team of sophomore Dawn Mielke (Mounds View, Minn.), Grorud, first-year Abby Love (Appleton, Wis.) and Daymont finished in second with a 4:05.09. Sophomore Leah Dvorak (Elma, Iowa) finished in fourth place in both the high jump and javelin, with performances of 4'11" and 105'10".
At the Bag Pipe Invitational , Grorud won the 800 meter race with a life-time best time of 2:21.78. Senior Margie Tilman (St. Louis Park, Minn.) was second finishing in 2:25.09. Senior Mary Reid (Cedar Falls, Iowa) was first in the 3000 meter steeple chase resetting the school record of 12:11.06. Senior co-captain Janet Hengel (Sartell, Minn.) finished in second in the 400 meter hurdles with a season best time of 1:07.38. Sophomore Lisa Eidenschink (Detroit Lakes, Minn.) finished in second in the discus with a toss of 40.52 meters (132'11.00"), just shy of the National qualifying mark. . The Oles, featuring a mix of seasoned veteran seniors and rookies, compete this Friday and Saturday, May 11-12 at the MIAC Championships held at Carleton College.
