Sprout MIAC Baseball Player of the Week

St. Olaf College junior Brian Sprout (Lake City, Minn.) helped the Oles to a 6-0 week. Sprout had 12 hits and scored 13 runs. He hit four home runs Monday to lead a doubleheader sweep of St. Thomas. In game one, Sprout hit a grand slam in the second inning to give the Oles a 5-2 lead, and he added a solo shot in the fourth in a 13-5 victory.
In game two, Sprout hit a two-run blast in the third inning and a solo shot in the fourth and the Oles won 18-5. In the two games, Sprout scored eight runs, with five hits and eight RBI. In the wins against Concordia and St. John's, Sprout had seven hits and scored five runs.
The Oles, 27-7 overall and the winners of 12 in a row, repeated as MIAC champions with an18-2 finish. They tied an MIAC record by sweeping nine conference doubleheaders in a season.
