St. Olaf men?s and women?s track finished their seasons at the NCAA championships at Milliken University in Decatur, Illinois this past weekend.

The top finishers for the Oles were Mark Bresnan (Sr., Indianola, Iowa) and Jon Berg (Sr., Golden Valley, Minn.). After an exceptional season, Bresnan finished fourth in the 800 M in a time of 1:52.50. Going into the meet, Bresnan had the fourth best time in the nation when he ran 1:51. 87 for a first place finish in the MIAC championships and the co-most valuable performance. Since the beginning of indoor track and field, Bresnan is the only male athlete to compete in all three NCAA championships in the same academic year. Bresnan competed in cross country, finished second at the indoor championships and fourth at the outdoor championships.

Jon Berg, an automatic qualifier and the MIAC decathlon champion, finished in eighth place with solid performances. Corey Dingels (Jr., Gibbon, Minn.), who was the MIAC long jump champion and second in the high jump, also competed but did not make the finals.

Megan Daymont (So., Northfield, Minn.) and Janet Hengel (Sr., Sartell, Minn.) competed for the Ole women. Both Daymont and Hengel competed at the championships a year ago; Daymont has qualified for six consecutive nationals in cross country and track and field in her first two seasons.

Daymont qualified in the 800M and 1500M, finishing fifth and sixth respectively at the MIAC championships. Daymont was in the hunt for the 1500M until the last 300 meters of the race. Daymont developed mononucleosis in the last two weeks of the season and it definitely impacted her performances leading up to the national meet. The pole vault competion was excellent and Hengel competed well, vaulting the same height as the eighth place finisher, but having one more miss. Hengel was the Oles? only individual champion at the MIAC championships. Said coach Chris Daymont, "Competing at nationals is a great experience; you find out what you can do against some elite Division III athletes."
