November 10, 2009
In celebration of Charles Darwin’s various achievements, the conference "A Second Genesis? Evolution on Earth and Beyond. Happy 200th Birthday to Charles Darwin!" will feature speakers Martinez Hewlett, molecular biologist and virologist at the University of Arizona, and co-author of Theological and Scientific Commentary on Darwin’s Origin of Species; Chris Impey, an astrobiologist at the University of Arizona and author of The Living Cosmos; and Margaret Race, an exobiologist with the Search for Extraterrestrial Life Institute who specializes in the ethics of space exploration.
The conference, which is free and open to the public, is being held in conjunction with Professor Ted Peters's residency as the Martin E. Marty Professor of Religion and the Academy at St. Olaf College.
