St. Olaf was the only liberal arts college in the national Rube Goldberg Machine Contest and the only school without an engineering program, which "made their 1st place finish all the more stunning," Minnesota Public Radio host Tom Crann noted in an interview with team leaders.

Associate Professor of Physics Jason Engbrecht, the team's adviser, and Dan Endean '09, one of the team's captains, were interviewed on the program about winning the national championship.
