Greetings from the Hill

Last week I had the pleasure of spending two days with the St. Olaf Alumni Board, a group of 18 alumni from across the nation who serve in an advisory role to the Advancement and College Relations Division of the college.

These are amazing people.

Full of ambition, ideas, drive, and creativity, Alumni Board members act in important ways to serve the mission of St. Olaf and spearhead strategic priorities that support our college. They lead alumni events across the globe, fundraise and manage volunteers for the Partners in Annual Giving program, and serve as thoughtful liaisons between alumni and St. Olaf.

Even more remarkable is the fact that all their work -- sometimes more than 10 hours each week -- is done within a volunteer capacity and in the spirit of service. We all are in debt to them for their leadership and vision.

Throughout our recent meetings, discussions focused on the idea of Ole Citizenship. What does it mean to be a good Ole? What qualities are present in an Ole citizen? How can we all support current students?

Again and again, the theme of volunteering and service were central to our discussion. Whether being present in the lives of current students and offering services on campus, serving on the Twin Cities Black & Gold Gala committee, fundraising for your class gift to Partners in Annual Giving, serving on your reunion committee, or countless other opportunities, the act of volunteering does and will benefit current students at the college.

So today, in the spirit of the Alumni Board, I ask you to join this incredible group of individuals and nearly 400 other Oles who already give to the college through their time and energy. The time commitment is rarely more than three hours per month and is well supported by other volunteer leaders and the college staff and faculty.

If you're interested in more information or would like to sign up for this fun and fulfilling opportunity, please visit the volunteer website. I look forward to working alongside you and the hundreds of other remarkable Ole citizens committed to supporting our college.

Thank you!
