On Saturday, Nov. 1, at 1 p.m. St. Olaf Professor of Political Science Dan Hofrenning will participate in a panel discussion of the 2008 presidential campaign produced by the BBC World Service and Minnesota Public Radio, and distributed by Public Radio International. The event will be broadcast live globally by the BBC and across the United States on the PRI/NPR network (listen locally on MPR News station KNOW, 91.1 FM). It also will be streamed on the MPR and BBC Websites.

The discussion, which will take place at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis in front of a studio audience, will be moderated by MPR's Kerri Miller and the BBC's Claire Bolderson. In addition to Hofrenning, the panel will include:
-Keith Ellison, Democratic Congressman from Minnesota's 5th Congressional District
-Chris Georgacus, chair of the Minnesota Republican party 1993-97 and head of Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty's gubernatorial campaign
-Ann Markusen, director of the Project on Regional and Industrial Economics at the Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs
-Rick Aguilar, CEO of Aguilar Productions and director of the McCain campaign effort for small businesses in Minnesota

"The idea is to ask, 'What does American want from its next president?,'" says Piers Scholfield, a senior broadcast journalist with the BBC World Service. "The subject matter is currently very broad, but we will be discussing the top issues on the agenda at the election -- whatever they happen to be just days before the election itself."

On election night Hofrenning will provide commentary for ABC TV affiliate KAAL 6 in Rochester, Minn.
