The St. Olaf Garden Research and Organic Works (STOGROW) farm will host a festival Saturday, Sept. 6, starting at 1 p.m. The event will include music, face painting, activities for children, self-guided tours, STOGROW T-shirts for sale and food from the STOGROW farm prepared by Bon Appetit.

"We invite the community, students, and any faculty and staff to venture out to the farm to learn more about it," says Abby Benson '11, who has spent her summer working on the STOGROW farm.

This year's festival is happening a few weeks later than past festivals. The STOGROW farmers hope that this will enable students just returning to campus to learn more about the farm firsthand. A free hayride will be available to transport those who wish to attend from the Tostrud Center to the farm starting at 1 p.m.

The farm is located just west of the St. Olaf campus, at 8997 Eaves Ave. (just off Highway 19 on the "hospital" road), directly behind the Cannon River Watershed Project.

"The main reason we like to have this event is so people realize that STOGROW exists and to learn the importance of eating locally," Benson says.

STOGROW is a fully self-sustaining operation that two students started four years ago with the help of a Finstad Entrepreneurial Grant. Produce this summer includes multiple varieties of tomatoes, basil, squash, beets and more.
